Four instruments, free and unlocked.

These are the working tools from my coaching practice, adapted so you can run them on yourself. Each one is a printable PDF built to be filled in by hand, and each takes somewhere between fifteen minutes and an afternoon.

No email required. Take what is useful, use it with your own team, and keep it whole and attributed.

Cue / Script / Choice

Finding the second between what happens and what you do.

Most leadership is faster than decision-making. Something occurs and a response arrives already formed. This maps the cue that sets yours off, the inherited script that fires, and the small move available in the gap between them. Includes the five patterns that show up most often, a blank mapping grid, and a one-week practice.

The Placemat

Preparation that can turn out to be wrong.

The brief I build before a coaching session, rebuilt as something you can run on yourself before a hard conversation, a new role, or a decision you have already half made. Raw material, three numbered hypotheses with their falsifiers, a ledger for afterward, and your own watch-fors.

The Two Uses of Imagination

Anxiety and creativity run on the same faculty.

Ask a room of senior people how many consider themselves imaginative and about a fifth raise a hand. Ask who lay awake rehearsing a conversation that has not happened yet and every hand goes up. On what separates the version you undergo from the version you author, with three practices and a fifteen-minute exercise.

Holding the Container

For people who carry other people's weight for a living.

Coaches, clinicians, chaplains, counselors, teachers, HR leaders, and anyone managing a team through something hard are all doing versions of one job: staying steady so somebody else does not have to be. Twenty-four items across six domains, scored by hand, with bands that describe arrangements rather than character.

If you want the next one

I send a short letter roughly once a month: one idea worked through properly, and whatever new instrument I have built. It goes to people who do demanding relational work and want to keep doing it well.

Optional, and unrelated to the downloads above. One email a month, no sequences, and a reply gets you off the list.

Some things do not yield to a worksheet.

The instruments above work on what you can already see. The material that matters most is usually the part you cannot get at alone, which is the whole reason this profession exists.

If something here opened a question worth a proper conversation, that is what I do for a living. One hour, no obligation, and you will leave with something usable whether or not we work together.
